About me.

Hello! This is ding.dev, the personal site of a software engineer living in Sunnyvale, California. I work at Meta on Instagram Ads.

This is my personal site. I write about software, and occasionally about life.

Now

• Based in Sunnyvale, California, after moving from New York in 2026
• Working on Instagram Ads at Meta

Background

• Studied EE at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, then taught myself Computer Science
• First job at Sohu in Beijing
• Master's in Computer Science from Stevens Institute of Technology, 2017
• Google Summer of Code 2016, worked on GitHub Classroom
• FreeWheel, 2017-2022, building ad products
• Meta, 2022-present

Some open source I built along the way: golf, a web framework in Go; dingo, a blog engine; and crotal, an early static site generator.

This site has been rebuilt more times than I can count: Octopress in 2012, Jekyll, WordPress, then two blog engines I wrote myself, then Gatsby, then Astro. It is now a self-hosted Next.js app. The old posts are still here.

Elsewhere

Outside of work I build custom keyboards, play guitar, and shoot film photography.
